Kuressaare Saaremaa Photo album |
Saaremaa is a relatively large, rural, and flat island situated on the western coast of the mainland of Estonia. Approximately 40,000 inhabitants live on the island, which measures around 50 miles (80 km) from one end of the island to the other. The principal place and capital of the island is Kuressaare, a pleasant small medieval town on the south coast of the island. For tourists and Estonians. Kuressaare offers a blend of attractions and services, such as banks, travel agents, markets, boutiques, and plenty of good pubs and restaurants. An attractive medieval castle is situated a few minutes walk away from the town centre, whilst the central area of the town boasts some fine buildings such as the town hall. Saaremaa is rich in plant life and woodland, offering some wonderful sights and and in many places, peace and silence.
